US Air Transport Plane Crash in Manila Kills 71

A US Air Transport plane collided with death and survivors at Clark Air Base Manila leaving 71 of 83 aboard dead and 12 injured. The C135 jet, from Travis AFB and Hawaii layovers, crashed near the runway in a fire filled area. Clark Field hosts the 13th Air Force and serves as a key supply link for South Vietnam. Two Philippine jets earlier at Basa base had crashes, one pilot killed and the other safe by parachute.

AP reports a Communist Viet Cong agent, Ngyuen Van Troi, leaped from a second floor window after plans to kill U.S. Defense Secretary McNamara were uncovered. Troi fled to a jeep, breaking his leg and ending in a coma as police linked him to a broader plot to blow a bridge on McNamara’s route to Saigon. Oregon Primary Seen As Donnybrook in 1964 GOP race

Washington AP reports Oregon's Republican presidential primary Friday as a six sided donnybrook amid Goldwater leading with 266 delegates and Rockefeller as the only candidate on the West Virginia ballot.
