Goosefare Brook Reclassification Talks Move Slowly

At a joint Saco and Old Orchard Beach meeting, officials discussed upgrading Goosefare Brook from its current classification toward C and then B-1 to allow swimming. Biddeford Park Projects Get Preliminary Approval

The Biddeford City Council accepted low bids for industrial park works. Griffin Construction Company of Portsmouth won $44,877 to build a pumping station and sewer line at Route 1 park to serve Hodgson Houses Inc and Fibre Materials. Edward C. Jordan Company of Portland bid $9,500 for another portion.

Pollution cleanup plan for Goosefare Brook gains support

Saco and Old Orchard Beach Conservation Commissions back a SMVTI led study to locate pollution sources in Goosefare Brook from Saco through Old Orchard Beach. The plan aims to upgrade water quality to class C suitable for fishing, amid tourism fears from last summer’s contamination.

Shortages Exist Despite Arab Supplies

The House Ways and Means Committee approved a light windfall profits levy on oil firms and a phased depletion allowance cut.
