Kennebunk selects bids for cruiser fuel and coal
The Kennebunk Board of Selectmen awarded contracts for a new police cruiser to Christensen Ford Sales at 1175, with other bids from Snowe Motor and Sir? fk Greene's garage. Snowdon Motor Co won the gas and oil bid with 25.4 cents high test, 21.9 regular, plus multiple oil prices. Texaco and L. and J. stations submitted similar bids. Coal for the high school went to B F Emery at 16.90 per ton, with FE R Warren offering 17. The town gravel pit will close to all but highway deterioration work. About 300 attendees filled the new Kennebunk High School gym for the Junior Senior prom. The event featured the theme Flower Fantasy with Jimmy Hanson’s Portland orchestra providing dancing music. Laurin Maling and Betsy Hall led the grand march, along with Thomas Farnsworth and Diane Shain. Chaperones included local couples, with many faculty and community members assisting. A memorial service for Grace Hunter and a report on a Shorey’s food sale were noted, plus prize recipients Antonia Harquoil and Rose Silverman. The next meeting is September 20.

A covered dish supper led by Mrs Shirley Doe preceded the meeting with Pocahontas Mrs Frances Johnson presiding. A communication from Great Pocahontas Mrs Ellen Staples of Belfast announced an official visitation in September. The charter was draped and a ceremony followed.
