Firm Goals Plus Hard Work Can Substitute For College
Leslie J. Nason argues that high school graduates can succeed without college through self discipline and continuous learning. He cites Erik and Frank as examples of self motivated progress, urging readers to pick a field, read systematically, and measure progress by personal growth and readiness to seize opportunities.

New England Business Outlook Sees Modest upswing Ahead
The First National Bank of Boston notes a slow but continuing economic upturn in New England. While confidence has been dampened by the steel episode and government anti business sentiment, a 1962 GNP near 560 billion is forecast with activity rising through the year. The report warns of psychological factors and a narrow stock market that could curb spending. International tensions and rising foreign long term borrowing also pose monetary challenges.

Mrs Peterson Named York County Red Cross Executive Secretary
Mrs Warren E Peterson of Saco is named executive secretary of the York County chapter American Red Cross replacing Mrs Rosamund Tucker for health reasons. The chapter also adds a 24 hour answering service run from Biddeford by Harold C Lewis and supported by the Maine Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. The Biddeford chapter, now inactive, may return as a Red Cross service hub if finances allow, with Home Service expanding in the county. Mrs Peterson has long Red Cross and community service ties in York County, including leadership roles in Saco and Biddeford groups, and has aided veterans and servicemen through the organization since World War II. The Biddeford drive continues seeking funds to sustain Red Cross branches and services for families in bereavement and illness.
