Old Orchard Beach plans a gala Canadian Festival Week from August 10 to 16 featuring a parade through Portland Scarborough Saco Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach a Queen Micheline Bedard 1960 Queen of the Quebec Winter Carnival and a court of six Canadian duchesses plus Maine Industry queens. Highlights include a clam bake Casco Bay tours a Queen Ball shopping tours and a night at Scarborough Downs with a fireworks display and band concert.

Belgian paratroopers cleared Leopoldville airport of Congolese soldiers in under an hour amid bursts of gunfire and grenades. Car Crash Takes Lives Of Sisters

Two Washburn girls Martha Rose Carmen age 6 and Carol Ann age 7 were fatally injured when their aunt's car crashed into a utility pole en route to Madison. Martha Rose died at Eastern Maine General Hospital Bangor and Carol Ann died there early today. Mrs. Marjorie Brasier 39 of Madison the driver sustained head and knee lacerations. The girls were daughters of Air Force S/Sgt. Philip Carmen stationed at Loring AFB. Police said the car went off Route 2 and struck a power pole.

Lightning Kills One As Storms Strike Maine

A lightning strike killed Evelyn B. Sanborn 35 of Cresco Pa at a Bremen summer house. Her parents and son witnessed the event as a small fire followed the strike. A separate blaze destroyed Maine Blueberry Growers Inc processing plant in West Rockport, causing about $100000 in losses and an annex at Dover Foxcroft home for aged women was heavily damaged with nine residents safe.
