Iceland imposes cigarette tax for cancer society funds
In Iceland a special tax on cigarettes will fund the Icelandic Cancer Society education and research. The tax aims to raise about $50,000 yearly, boosting the society from its $10,000 to $20,000 annual income, with part reserved for anti smoking campaigns targeting teens. Dr. Mi Dun gal notes the tax began January first, and the plan may lower revenue if anti smoking efforts succeed. The society seeks cervical cancer screening for women 25 to 60 and investigation into stomach cancer causes. Dr. Dungal, pathology professor at the University of Iceland, links smoking to lung cancer though tobacco interests dispute this. He notes rising cigarette use since imports rose from one pound per person per year to 32 pounds, with lung cancer cases increasing accordingly.

Troublesome House In Sight Of New Spot
A two and a half story house being moved from Elm Street toward May Street near Biddeford arrives at a field crossing after a gas and power crew clears wires. Hillock Merry and Taylor pull the heavy load with a weakened gear-end truck as a cable snaps, delaying progress. The move resumes with Taylor leading the winch, and two days of work expected to set the structure on a new foundation.
