In a moist Spring morning on the Sac River in 1893 Fred Brown runs a barbershop. First customer Hiram Harmon requests a shave as Fred Deering enters. A huge river rat leaps from a closet provoking Brown to leap into a chair and brandish a razor while Harmon climbs higher in fear. Deering swings a stove poker at the rat.
