INNSBRUCK Austria The Soviet Union moved closer to gold with a 6-2 victory over the United States in the XII Winter Olympic Games. The all star Soviet lineup, built from stars from the league champions, dominated the game and never trailed.
Charles E. Stanley Jr. was found guilty of cheating in a Portland Superior Court case involving 13 suspects over nearly $20,000 in alleged unneeded home repairs for Grace E. Simonton. The indictment lists $1,412 furnace, $2,728 basement rewiring, $851 floor, and other charges from 1974 1975, with non-existent taxes totaling $348. Several co-defendants were via acquittals or pleas.

At Escambia High School Pensacola a four hour race riot over the Rebels nickname left quarterback Keith Hughes shot in the left thigh and the school closed for the day.
