Fran cis S Rossi 33 of Boston is sentenced to 30 years after pleading guilty to five bank robberies and an escape from custody. OLD ORCHARD BEACH The town council reviewed Jerome Plante’s $1.74 million operating budget showing a $175,000 rise over last year and a $63,000 potential local tax increase, but an anticipated school budget change could lift the tax rate. Plante says most growth comes from salary and benefit costs, with new safety complex expenses and arts project payments. If school funding rises, the town may avoid tax hikes. otherwise across-the-board cuts are possible.
The government plans to reconstruct the 1974 Hibernia Bank robbery linked to Patricia Hearst. Witness Jim Smith testified, while defense attorney F. Lee Bailey portrayed Hearst as coerced and tortured by the Symbionese Liberation Army during her abduction and forced participation in the holdup.
