Southbridge man Richard P. Knowles, 18, was sentenced in Bangor to eight to 20 years for kidnaping Massachusetts businessman Galen McLaughlin, 62, of Acton. McLaughlin was abducted and robbed on Thanksgiving Day in Hampden while en route to Bradle to visit his mother. Co-defendants Donald D. Cormier and Ronald G. Valente faced sentences or trials.
