Capricious Winter Storm Paralyzes Northeast and Midwest
More than 150 people stranded overnight along the Thruway after a major blizzard hit near Buffalo and the Pennsylvania line. An additional convoy of about 150 moved 22 hours over 15 miles from Angola to Buffalo as 18 inches of snow fell with 35 mph winds. Dozens of schools closed in northeast Ohio, including Cleveland, while up to two feet of new snow worsened highway problems and isolated villages between Cleveland and Toledo. A roof in Berea collapsed under four tons of snow. Temperatures plunged across the Upper Midwest with Inter national Falls at 14 below, Minneapolis at -4, and Chicago near zero as more snow was expected.
