Portlanders Lost In Saco Find Way Out

A 37 year old Portland man George Rice and his 15 year old son John found their way out of the Heath section of North Saco after being lost for 20 hours. They entered the woods yesterday to seek Christmas trees at Spring and Lincoln roads and emerged at 8 40 this morning near Heath road. Wardens say they were chilly and tired but unharmed. The pair spent the night after building a fire as searchers from Saco fire department game wardens and police scoured the swampy area but could not hear their shouts until the two left on their own this morning. Parachute flares were used to illuminate the area last night but failed to locate them.

Reed Runs Afoul Of Sale Law

AUGUSTA AP The Governor says he violated the Sunday closing law while attempting to buy a flash light and batteries at a Blaine House area store. Proprietor John C Foss says he understood sales were not allowed on Sunday. The governor called for a general interpretation by Atty Gen Hancock to clarify the law. In Bangor County Attorney Foley reports police stopped the sale of Christmas trees as a result of a recent Supreme Court decision upholding the law.
