Whelan Wins Saco Mayoral Race Narrowly in 36th Year

Dr. Whelan edged Democrat Frank M. Jones by 217 votes 1925 to 1708 in the closest Saco mayoral contest in 36 years. Republicans held city council and school panel control while voters rejected a 45000 bond to convert the former Dyer library to a police station. Ward-by-ward results showed Republicans and Democrats trading gains across seven wards, with recounts in Ward 7 before Bryce Milne secured reelection by 12.

Old Orchard Beach 1963 town election results light turnout

Old Orchard Beach voters cast 1 528 ballots yesterday in a light election. Donald W Shorey won the councilman at large seat 840 to 611 over Ernest Brousseau for a two year term. Incumbents and other district winners were listed with vote totals for Districts 1 through 5, school committee, park commission, town clerk, civil service commission, constable, and town meeting members.

Erwin Loses Ground in York County Senate Race Recount

In a recount of 10 of 47 precincts in York County, incumbent Sen. Erwin R-York gained one vote as Brewster R-Wells moved ahead by 38 ballots and LeTourneau D-Sanford added 21. Official results show Brewster 1,846 to Erwin 1,798, LeTourneau 556. Two ballots were disputed amid no major changes in other York County races.
