The Cobbler Donovan Breaks Out Of Saco Jail

Daniel Donovan known as the Cobbler attempted a bold escape from the Saco Jail after a nuisance conviction. He used a saw and blades to free himself, opened a cell door, and fled before being recaptured with a fresh lock put on the cell. The escape occurred in the early hours as jailer Orrin Fenderson and night officers intervened. Donovan was then returned to Alfred for transport.

Gag order lifted in Saco and Biddeford Savings case

Superior Court Justice Sumner Goffin vacated the gag order after a meeting with Assistant Attorney General Kirk Studstrup and bank attorneys. At Panmunjom the UN Command refused to discuss North Korea’s partition plan until the North guarantees safety for command personnel. Navy Rear Adm. Mark Frodden pressed for punishment of those responsible for the August killings, while Gen. Han Ju kyong offered no new concessions. The talks, now in their third meeting, follow the August 18 slayings in the joint security area.
