Nuke blast at Hanford injures worker and contaminates others

An explosion at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Richland Washington injured one person and contaminated eight to ten others with radioactivity according to an Atlantic Richfield Hanford Co. spokesman. Details were unavailable as the Journal went to press.

Allied closing down at Saco plant in September

Saco's Allied Chemical Sange Inc will close before mid September, plant manager Ralph Dow said. About 100 employees have been laid off already, with another 150 to follow as production winds down in canvas footwear and tennis shoe manufacturing.
