Moon rocks from Apollo 11 may be 2 to 4.5 billion years old

Space Center Houston reports scientists estimate Apollo 11 lunar samples date from 2 to 4.5 billion years ago, aligning with the solar system's age. Researchers Oliver Schaeffer and John Funkhouser from SUNY, Joseph Zahringe of Max Planck Heidelberg, and Donald Bogard of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center analyzed rare gases at the lunar receiving lab. Some material will be shipped to U S and nine foreign labs for further study, with findings due in about three months.

Dinis Autopsy Request Taken Under Advisement

In Wilkes Barre Pa a judge took under advisement a motion by District Attorney Edmund Dinis of New Bedford Mass to obtain an autopsy on Mary Joe Kopechne. The ruling affects an inquest planned for Sept 3 in Edgartown Mass and heights the centerpiece of a dispute over Pennsylvania jurisdiction and the legality of exhumation.

Guns Flown To Bu Dop Special Forces Camp

US Air Force transport planes moved 18 armored personnel carriers and six antitank guns to Bu Dop camp 80 miles north of Saigon after reports of enemy armored movement near the Cambodian border. Clerical notes say tanks and APCs had not been sighted. North Vietnamese tactics use light amphibious tanks farther north. The campaign entered its third week with averages of 68 percent higher enemy attacks than the year’s low, and officials expect another surge around Sept 1. President Nixon postponed a decision on further troop withdrawals amid rising activity. Resor will present findings to Nixon for guidance on future deployments.

British Troops to Stay Four Months in Northern Ireland

British troops will maintain a peacemaking role in Northern Ireland for at least four months per military sources. Lt Col. Charles Millman said the tour is four months. Barricades in Londonderry were discussed with citizens, and the army pledged protection if barricades were removed. Incidents included fires in Belfast area and Portadown bar arson. Protests by Protestant groups against arming B Specials continued as Unionists sent three MPs abroad to counter Miss Devlin's U S visit.

Miami AP reports Hurricane Debbie remained largely unchanged after two days of Operation Stormfury seedings. Dr. R. Indian Constable Killed In Perry

Percy L. Moore 28 Passamaquoddy Indian constable on the Pleasant Point Reservation was shot and killed while attempting an arrest. Daniel R. Bassett 30 also Passamaquoddy was arrested and charged with murder. Bassett due for arraignment in Calais District Court. Moore leaves a wife and children.

In Vietnam, A Company of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade resists orders to move down Nui Lon Mountain amid brutal fighting. Lt.
