Defense Witness On Stand In Blast Case
A defense witness in a Superior Court blast case testified that there was no propane gas in the York Biscuit Co plant at the time of the May 13 explosion and fire. Irving Deutsch, a chemical process engineer, said his experience and the lack of odor argue against propane involvement while noting possible methane from sewers. Theodore Caouette of Biddeford was confirmed Democratic candidate for York county commissioner after opponent Reginald Frechette conceded during a recount in Augusta. Frechette had challenged June primaries where he trailed by 38 votes. the recount widened Caouette’s margin to 50 after gaining 12 votes. Atty. T. A. Fitanides and Atty. Ralph H. Ross represented the candidates.

Veteran Pharmacist To Retire October 1
Charles D. Richard a registered pharmacist at Liggett's drug store in Biddeford completes 34 years with the chain. He served 31 years in Biddeford and three at Lewiston before moving here. A Maine Pharmacists Association member he holds a 50 year button. Richard passed state boards in 1910 after two years at University of Maine. He began at Dussault in Lewiston, joined National Pharmacy then Babcock's in Lewiston before WWI service as hospital sergeant. Postwar he rejoined Liggett in Lewiston and moved to Biddeford after three years. Active in Elks Knights of Columbus and American Legion post he is married to Bertha Gendereau of Lewiston and Canada with two daughters and four grandchildren. They plan to move to Lakeland Florida after retirement.

Bangor AP report says Judge James A. Mooney fined Donald Hoitt 25 dollars after he pled guilty to assault and battery. The judge criticized parents for allowing their daughters to parade half dressed and then seek police help when something happens. Eight persons were injured in a two car collision at West and Prospect streets Biddeford. Police said one car tried to turn from Prospect onto West while the other traveled on West.
