Lansing May 1. The house approved a bill amending the primary election law to have United States senators nominated by the people and to give the governor and lieutenant governor nominations to the candidates with the most votes at the primary. It is believed the bill will become law.
Mrs F W Singler Miss A Vantwood and Mrs W E Moscrip visit Wakefield Tuesday. Misses Minnie and Gussie Hester travel from Wakefield to the Lumber Jacks Blowout. Miss Regina Hoeffner Hurley visits Miss A Vantwood. Wm Thorpe adds final touches to his residence. F W Singler visits Eagle River Monday. Engine 967 supervisor A J Ward serves as right hand man. The Soo hatchery distributes brook trout fry now after a delay from the back season. Planting of commercial fish starts next month. The hatchery will plant 25 million white fish and 6 million lake trout in Lakes Superior and Huron this season.

C H Rutledge and Jacob Kammen, anti-saloon workers, were assaulted by a crowd in Negaunee after eleven o'clock as they checked saloon closing compliance. Eggs were thrown, some coating their clothing, by a group of about a hundred saloon supporters. no further violence occurred.
