Jurors for the May term of circuit court have been selected from Bessemer Wakefield and Watersmeet among others. The May term is scheduled for Monday May 13. The court calendar lists five criminal cases 35 civil suits 7 chancery suits 49 civil suits with no progress over a year and 15 chancery suits over a year old. Two criminal cases involve Golfred Castagna recently returned from California and held for theatre robberies.

Indian geologist studies North American ore districts
Dr John A Dunn of the Geological Survey of India visited the Lake Superior region examining iron ore and copper properties and mining methods. He will travel to Homestake, then Utah to inspect iron mines and ore deposits, aided by local experts. Dunn notes India’s iron ore resources at about 4,000,000,000 tons of high grade blue hematite. He was warmly received by local mining representatives.

150 Inches Snowfall Here This Winter
Frank Barnich, cooperative weather observer, reports 150 inches of snow this winter here, compared with 151 inches up to May 1 last year. April snowfall was 1.1 inches, the latest snow fell on Monday and vanished the next day. Last April's maximum temperature reached TS degrees on April 26 and the minimum was 10 degrees on April 15.

Iron River Mine Suspends Operation
Iron River operations were suspended at the Davidson mines operated by the Davidson Ore company on Thursday afternoon. About 100 men were affected. the duration of the shutdown is undetermined. Superintendent Rudolph Ericson, away in the east, could not be reached for comment. The mines reopened last December after a two month closure. pumping will continue.

Glidden Youth Held for Thefts in Wakefield and Bessemer
Ted Striebel alias James Scott, a 21 year old from Thomaston Glidden, was arrested by Wakefield police on charges of breaking and entering and larceny. He admitted robbing J R Johnson in Wakefield and the Charles Lutz and Bessemer stores, after wedding rings and other items were found on him. Police recovered rings, a rifle, fish poles, lights, knives, watches, and other small articles linked to the crimes. He is held in the county jail after a preliminary examination and is bound over to circuit court for trial. a second man, Bud Poviem, was released after questioning.

Death in Forest Highway blast ends Crystal Falls man’s life
Alfred Jarpe, 52, of Crystal Falls, died three hours after reporting for work in a dynamite blast on Forest Highway 16 near Paint Lake CCC camp. Witnesses Swan Fors and Wilfred Jacques said Jarpe carried 15 dynamite rounds and appeared to stumble as he moved toward a planned blast. Coroner H. J. Larson conducted the inquiry. Jarpe’s body was badly mangled.

William J. Olcott, 73, retired president of Oliver Iron Mining Co., died Monday in Pasadena after a stroke. Born in Detroit and UMich graduate, he shaped Gogebic range operations, led Mesaba mines, and headed the company from 1908 to 1928. He also led the Duluth Mesaba & Northern railway 1901–1909.

Wakefield Man Returned To Prison For Parole Violation
Arvo Willing, 24, of Wakefield, was taken back to Marquette prison by county officers for parole violation. Sentenced in 1932 to 3 to 15 years for assault and robbery, he was paroled Aug. 26, 1924. His return to prison was reported as caused by disturbing the peace.

Sheriff Returns With Castagna In Custody From Oakland
Sheriff William B. Paynter and Isaac A. Chouinard returned from Oakland with Golfred Castagna, former Hurley resident wanted for Ironwood theatre robberies and other crimes from four years ago. Castagna escaped jail in 1932 and waived extradition. he left behind a three month old bride.
