In Monday's Bessemer city township primary two incumbents lost renomination Albert Jacobeon fifth ward alderman and Joe Sacca Ramsay township highway commissioner were defeated by Clarence Johnson and Gabriel Johnson by 14 and 140 votes respectively The Citizens party led in the township while overall voter totals dropped from last year with 1255 votes in the city and about 400 fewer in the township

Victor Stengard a 57 year old resident of Ssemer Township died Thursday at his home south of the Davis location. Born in Finland on December 10 1879 he came to the area in 1900 and worked in the mines. Survived by widow two sons and six daughters in Illinois and New Jersey and brothers and sisters in Finland. Funeral services were held Monday at his home and St Paul Finnish Lutheran church in Ironwood with Rev Herman Matero officiating and burial in Ironwood cemetery receiving vault. Pallbearers listed.

A seven year old named Robert Alonen perished when a three room farm house at River Branch near Hurley burned early Saturday. The boy’s bones and a dog skeleton were found in the ruins. Grandmother Amelia Fiakmas, 62, suffered severe burns and was taken to Runstrom hospital in Lreaweed. Edward Aleses, 14, sustained lesser burns.

Solomon lands county fair grounds earthwork contract
Solomon Sam D. Solomon a Lansing contractor with Bessemer ties won the county fair grounds excavation job. The contract calls for 25 000 cubic yards of earth with a bid of 5025 dollars plus 181 percent cents per yard for dirt and 2 dollars per yard to remove 200 cubic yards of rock. Seven firms bid including Muki, Anderson, Peters, Brumm, Thornton Bros and Fox Valley Construction Co.

Last Rites for Liikanen Held in Ironwood
Funeral services for the late August Liikanen were held Friday at his home in Bessemer township and at St. Paul Finnish Lutheran Church in Ironwood. Rev.
