Former resident Charles Vomastek dies after brain tumor
Charles Vomastek aged 39 died at Hines Memorial hospital Chicago at 1:30 this morning after a two month battle with a brain tumor. He was born in Bessemer and grew up there. A World War veteran, he served in the 323rd Field Artillery and the 32nd Division on the St Mihiel Front. He worked as linotype foreman for the Escanaba Daily Press since 1921, after time with the Bessemer Herald. He leaves a wife four children and many siblings. Burial will be in Bessemer, funeral plans pending.
