Lack of Labor Checks Mining on Copper Range
Hancock Michigan reports a copper country labor shortage hindering full mine operation. Most mines run at about 55 percent capacity, with 13 600 to 14 000 men normally employed. Operators could add 7 000 workers immediately, but postwar emigration to auto centers and wage prospects elsewhere keep crews thin.
