Typhoid fever caused the illness and peritonitis led to death after two intestinal perforations. Paul Tarkal, born in Bessemer, died after two surgeries. he had returned from Lansing with his brother Joseph, who was hospitalized but improving. Three Parades Planned for Upper Peninsula Firemen’s Meet
At the Upper Peninsula Firemen's Tournament in Bessemer July 29 to August 1 three parades are planned. The firefighters parade will feature about 35 departments on July 30 afternoon, the shirt tail parade with torches on July 30 evening, and a civic calithumpian parade on July 31. Bands from Bessemer Ironwood Wakefield and other groups plus Wakefield city band and Hurley fife and drum corps are expected, with the Tron River Legion fife and drum corps and possibly the Duluth firemen's fife and drum unit also likely attendees.

Ages 9 to 12 meet 9 30 to 4 36 a.m. If needed, the group will split into two sections. Ages 12 to 16 meet 1 30 to 2 50 p.m. A baseball league will be played after each afternoon session. Bids Awarded for South Davis Road Work to Pohjola
The Bessemer township board awarded a quarter mile road contract to Charles Pohjola with a bid of 250 dollars as the lowest.
