Iron River district reports the U S government purchased the Basswood settlement land about three months after option. The price for more than 360 acres was set at 34377.49 dollars. Deed in Crystal Falls records shows purchase funded by the Federal Resettlement Administration under R G Teewell. Former owner Arthur C Gould, a rancher, held the property 14 miles northwest of Iron River.
