Buck Deer Killed In Yard Accident In Upper Peninsula
An extraordinary accident in the Van Owen yard in the western Upper Peninsula killed an adult buck deer. State game man I. F. Schneider witnessed Schroeder jump the deer which then ran into a sharp branch from a partially fallen tree, the end of which punctured the animal. The buck ran about 100 feet before collapsing and dying.

He formerly operated the Morgan mine at Wakefield and the Indiana mine at Iron Mountain under Thomas Furnace Co. in Milwaukee. Trophy to honor slain Michigan game warden
Conservation officers in Michigan will be honored by a gold trophy named the Andrew Schmeltz award. Philip K. Fletcher, ex conservation commissioner, funds the prize to a district three-man team testing pistol skills at the officers training school in Pigeon River state forest this summer. James Monroe, an Ironwood pioneer and former attorney, disposed of his last business asset by selling the building housing Ekquist Clothing in Ironwood.
