Sales Tax Shows Gain in May for Lansing
May sales tax receipts reached 3,901,169.21, rising 181,779.69 from April as Draper Allen reports, though year to year totals lag behind 1937. Use tax fell for May, totaling 38,768.30, with overall fiscal year collections at 43,727,773.08, still below 44,954,138.34 last year.

The Gogebic range mourns the loss of Judge George O. Driscoll of the circuit court who for 20 years presided over Michigan's third district. Ill since the May term, he died Monday night at St. Joseph's hospital in Ashland, at his Ironwood home. Funeral rites were held this morning.

A group from Ironwood Bessemer Ramsay Rockland Iron River Stam baugh and Caspian will meet June 15 at Crystal Falls to travel by bus to Menominee then ferry to Frankfort for the Wolverine Boys State camp in East Lansing. Six boys from Bessemer will join Domenic Michela Leslie Anderson William McKie Lawrence Pospeck James Romstad and John Wakerainen for the Michigan American Legion sponsored trip.

The Marquette County Board of Supervisors weighs sponsoring a NYA historic marker at the Argyle mine in Humboldt township.
