A special election will be held in Bes semer Third Ward on Monday to elect an Alderman Supervisor after Richard Gheller vacated the post. Ballot candidates include Richard M. Ried, William C. Maki and Raymond Nelson. Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST.
Northern Michigan University will confer 3 master of arts and 46 baccalaureate degrees at its 67th annual commencement on Sunday June 4. The class includes 60 master's and 434 bachelor's degree candidates. Dr. Edgar L. Harden NMU president will confer degrees at 2 p m in Hedgcock Fieldhouse. Honorary degrees go to H Stuart Harrison Cleveland-Cliffs CEO and Mrs A B Roberts Marquette. Harrison will give the commencement address. Bessemer graduates include Jane Abelman Phyllis Armichardy Dominic Cossi Kenneth Forslund Lynn Hanisko Delbert Jacobson Sandra Johnson Judith Korpi Ronald Matonich Brian Mattson Judith Mattson and Douglas Zychowski.
Washington School music department presented a concert at E J Oas Field on Michigan Education Day. The Washington School Elementary Grades under Mrs Willow Tallio and Washington Junior High Band under Fred Tezak performed a marching tune set and multiple songs from grades one through six concluding with Michigan My Michigan.
Members of the County Seat Home Extension Study Group elected officers at a meeting held at the Washington School. New officers include Chairman Mrs. Ronald Tourville and Treasurer Mrs. Celeste Barbacovi. A talk contrasted the Geboge Hospital’s shift to an Extended Care Facility with notes on heart disease and stroke research. A College Week for Women at Michigan State University July 25 to 28 was announced, and a season-ending dinner at Weber's Resort set for June 26 with RSVP by June 20.
The VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries organize a block fund drive on June 2 and 3 to support Bessemer’s Fourth of July celebration. The committee will solicit donations from local businesses and coordinate events including a 6 A.M salute, 9 A.M children’s races with free ice cream, a 1 P.M children’s parade, and a 7 P.M grand parade with demonstrations and fireworks at Massie Field. Floats are invited. prizes will be awarded. Auxiliary members and ward chairmen are listed as contacts.

Surviving are his wife two sons Leonard Waukegan Ronald Pence Wis four grandchildren three brothers Une Bessemer Emil Ramsay Onnie Iron Mountain and one sister Mrs Arthur Westeen Ramsay. Mrs. Albert Taraboi 51 of 405 1st Ave Hurley born May 17 1916 in Wakefield died Thursday after months of illness. She married Albert Taraboi Sept 2 1937 at St Mary Catholic Church Hurley and was active in St Mary Church and the Iron County VFW Auxiliary. Surviving include husband son Dennis Eau Claire daughters Donna Debra three grandchildren and sisters Louise Watson Chicago Francis Parent Royal Oak Emma Stank la Minneapolis and brother Charles Rizzie Gladstone. Funeral at St Mary Church Hurley Saturday at 10 am Very Rev John Rainaldo officiating burial at St Mary Cemetery.
The Natural Resources Tour of Black River Valley drew about 1000 visitors led by M W Kageorge Forest Supervisor Ottawa National Forest. The U S Service and Michigan State University Extension co sponsored with Michigan Week.
Michigan Week Hospitality Day in Bessemer featured a tea at the Elks clubrooms from 3 to 5 p m honoring newcomers. It was sponsored by Our Lady of Guadaloupe Circle of the Daughters of Isabella with St Sebastian Guild’s black chairs. Guests were welcomed by Mrs Eugene Winkowski and Miss Fiella Knobloch.
Mrs. Cecelia Miljevich, school nurse, informs parents that Gogebic County Health Department now runs pre school clinics in Ironwood Memorial Building with monthly sessions. Immunization rules require DTP, polio, measles, smallpox, tuberculosis test before 1967-68 enrollment, including boosters for diphtheria whooping cough tetanus polio and smallpox for returning and new Michigan students.
