Calumet & Hecla copper costs and future profits outlined

An eastern stockholder queried Calumet & Hecla prospects and a Boston News Bureau reply noted that copper costs run about half the selling price, with current costs 6 to 7 cents per pound. The reply cites a new superintendent McNaughton implementing economies, reduced labor, and monthly tonnage of 12 000 rock yielding 62 pounds of refined copper per ton, expecting 90 to 95 million pounds this year with at least 4 cents per pound profit. United States Steel raises wages to new high

The United States Steel Corporation grants the largest wage increase yet, about 10 to 15 percent, affecting roughly 10 000 workers and boosting payroll by about 4 million dollars. Robbers Escape Jail During Violent Rain Storm

Four men jailed on a county charge escaped from Watersmeet jail during a heavy rain storm. They allegedly used a hole behind a cage, a sawed bar, and a hinged table lever to reach the attic and ground via a blanket rope.
