The annual Mothers March on January 28 gathered about 75 volunteer women to canvass homes and collect funds for the National Foundation. Chairwomen Mrs. Charles Rastello and Mrs. August Johnson urged use of envelopes left at homes. donations may be mailed to the chairmen. Check-in at Veterans Memorial building followed the downtown route with Fifth Ward marchers at Emmanuel Facchinello home and coffee served at check-in points.

Yale Catholic Guild held officer installations at St Sebastian Church with Mrs Emmanuel Facchinello named president and others to roles including vice president secretary and treasurer. The group planned a Feb 16 card party and Feb 18 meeting with a potluck supper and assigned chairmen for card sales, tickets, lunches, and telephone duties. The Bessemer Elks Lodge social committee announced events from February 6 dinner before the lodge meeting to a February 8 Valentine party with dancing. February 20 features initiation ceremonies and a buffet luncheon, and March 15 hosts a St. Patrick’s Day party. Proceeds benefit the Elks Major Project Fund aiding handicapped children.

Mrs. Frank Hoffner received honors at the Michigan division convention in Kalamazoo for outstanding service as education chairman of Gogebic County’s American Cancer Society unit. Election of officers was held by Range Girl Scout Leaders at Bessemer last Monday. Mrs. E Russell Johnson was reelected president. Other officers elected were Mrs. Dominic Pitrone vice president Miss Cleo Russell treasurer and Mrs. Elmer Fisher secretary. The range has 18 Girl Scout and 10 Brownie leaders. Plans begun for a May rally with Physical Fitness as theme. A motto and design contest will award a prize for the rally booklet. The next leaders meeting is March 30 at Central School. Lunch followed with skis decorations bearing Girl Scouts and Ski in Gebe ic County.

Gogebic County reported a year end balance of 111 315.77 at the December board meeting. Total income reached 3 252 162.11 including tax funds 554 683 and 2 697 479 11 from other sources.
