State Highway Chief Warns Limits On Road Funds
Detroit area highway interests quote Grover C. Dillman stating the State Highway Department has only about 3.33 million dollars available for new construction in 1938. He notes 15 million in weight tax receipts go to local tax relief and 2.5 million to township road maintenance, reducing discretionary funds. Dillman argues the department’s remaining balance could be lower if gas tax receipts drop, refuting claims of diverting 20 thousand dollars from highway funds without harming maintenance.
