Beginning September 2 1950 the Bessemer Post Office will be closed all day on Sundays with no mail service. Postmaster Springhetti announced a schedule change implemented by the Postal Transportation Service.

Township Resident Dies At Grand View
John Pederson 91 died at Grand View hospital after a two month stay due to a fractured hip. A longtime resident of Bessemer Township born May 21 1859 in Gulbrasdalen Norway he immigrated to Minnesota in 1885. He worked in lumber camps Wisconsin mines Iron Belt Ironwood and the Davis mine before being pensioned by U S Steel Co in 1932. Funeral Friday at J J Frick funeral home with Rev Harries officiating, burial Riverside cemetery Ironwood.

Water Dept. Job Nears Completion
The Bessemer Water and Sewer Utility nears completion on a new water supply project south of the Ironton mine started July 5. By July 15, 4200 of-inch main piping is laid. Supervised by James Boggio, two 12 by 24 pumphouses have been erected, with pumps of 150 and 100 gallons per minute. The pumps await transformer power line arrival and will serve 360,000 gallons daily. Oil heated pumphouses use 1000 gallon tanks. One well is 37 feet deep and the other 72 feet.

Seedlings Available for Private Reforestation Programs
The conservation department offers over 17,000,000 seedlings and transplants for fall and spring planting. Interested growers should contact the forestry division in Lansing. Nine classes of pine stock include two and three year old red, white and jack pines, with white and red pine transplants aged three to four years. Shipments run Sept 15 to Nov 1 for fall and April 15 to May 20 for spring, at cost for reforestation purposes only.

Michigan to ship hunting licenses and 1950 game law digest
Michigan conservation department reports 4600 hunting license agents will stock game licenses and the 1950 game law digest by the second week of September. Final shipments to upper peninsula dealers are underway. Fees stay the same for residents and nonresidents. Ducks and geese hunters must obtain a federal migratory waterfowl stamp. The digest folder, 12 pages, is free from license agents. Last year, 1,043,111 hunting and trapping licenses were issued.

Ground Broken For Wood Treating Plant

Kingsford Cardinals defeat the Bessemer Steelers to earn a shot at the NWM league title game. Kingsford led the regular season with Milt Krznarich and Tony Ippolito pitching for the winners, while Jackie Jarr worked the full game for Kingsford. The Steelers were hit hard for 29 total runs and trailed 5 to 14.

Husband of Former Bessemerite Dies
Howard S. House, 53, an industrial engineer with Ford Motor Co. of Detroit, died last Thursday after a two week illness at St Joseph Mercy Hospital. He lived in Detroit 15 years and was a member of Capitol Lodge 66 F&AM, the Industrial Engineering Society, and the Engineering Society of Detroit. Survived by his wife Mildred McMahane of Bessemer, two sisters, and his mother. Funeral services held at William R. Hamilton Funeral Home, Wayne Memorial Lodge, burial at Acacia Park Cemetery. Attending from Bessemer were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McFarlane.
