State and local leaders gather in Houghton for a two day recovery conference called by Governor Comstock to align Michigan recovery and welfare efforts with Upper Peninsula needs. Gogebic county sales tax due before August fifteenth
Retailers in Gogebic county received tax report forms due August 15 along with the state sales tax remittance. License fees of one dollar cover a license valid until July 1, 1994. Returns report gross sales with no deductions for cost, but a 350 deduction is allowed from gross under the 600 exemption. Taxable sales are those to direct consumers. municipal and resale sales are excluded. Remittance is three percent of gross sales.

Funeral for Capt T L Luxmore Noted Iron Mountain Miner
County Clerk John Luxmore and sister Mrs George H Carah returned from Iron Mountain after attending the funeral of their uncle Captain Thomas L Luxmore who died Tuesday night at age 80. Born in England he came to the United States at 17 and worked for Calumet and Hecla before joining Chapin mine as captain in 1899 serving until 1915. He was a charter member of the Lake Superior Mining Institute.

At 9 PM a parade escort to the Amphidrome for the presentation of colors and a floor show followed by the Governor's Ball with MacNord's eleven piece band.

Afflicted children may be committed to any approved hospital with Michigan Crippled Children Commission approval, except University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, which is tentatively approved. State pays hospital costs, with physicians, surgeons and some travel funded by counties. Detailed rules on traveling expenses, age 18 to 21 limits, and funding sources are being interpreted by the attorney general and state administrative board.

Loaded Rifle Case In Deer Area Plea Guilty
Joe Shiefka of this city paid costs of 6.85 in Justice Adolph J. Gedda's court Tuesday afternoon. He pleaded guilty to having a loaded rifle in a deer area out of season. A fine of 25 or 10 days in jail was suspended. Day Barron, conservation officer, and Prosecutor W. F. Pellow are holding the rifle until the deer season opens.
