Former Alderman James Proctor Dies in Ann Arbor
James Proctor former second ward alderman died Saturday at University Hospital in Ann Arbor at age 66 after a two week critical illness. A longtime Bessemer resident since 1898 he worked in mining for nearly fifty years and served on the city council with six years as council president. He married Mabel Pascoe in 1905 and leaves a son Delmar and a daughter Melissa Johnson along with six grandchildren two sisters and a half brother. He was active in the Presbyterian church and a longtime member and chief of the Bessemer Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church with Rev. R. I. Larsen officiating.
