Early Day Range Publisher Hannaford Dies in Virginia
William Elbert Hannaford, a Gogebic Range newspaper man of Virginia Minnesota's early days, died Sunday April 17 in Virginia. He arrived in 1893 and quickly produced his first issue telegraphed from Bessemer Michigan. Born in Skowhegan Maine he once owned Range Printing Company and later led the local American Legion post.

WPA Checks Move From Iron Mountain to Lansing

Bodies recovered after river tragedy claim two children
The two children Audrey Mae Hanson six and Lloyd Hanson twelve were found downstream from the Black River bridge after their automobile plunged into swollen waters on April 15. Deputy Sheriff Sparapani found Audrey near a log jam while Leonard and Gordon Erickson located Lloyd near the South Shore depot. A search for the father Ted Hanson continued as 60 men, including twenty Ironton mine workers, helped in the hunt. A double funeral was held for Audrey and Lloyd at the Presbyterian church.

Ancient Mastodon Tusk Found North of Bessemer
Cogebic county road workers unearthed a mastodon tusk at the Narrows gravel pit eight miles north of Bessemer. The 8 ft 4 in ivory specimen was found 16 ft below the surface, with a hollow end and gray interior. Found by Albin Johnson Arvid Thors Wendell Burt and Arthur Erickson the find will be reported to the National Park Service for authentication by scientists.
