Ironwood Hosts Annual Upper Peninsula Women’s Club Convention
Fifty four delegates from eighteen clubs will attend the 17th annual Upper Michigan District convention of the Michigan State Federation of Women’s Clubs in Ironwood at the Memorial building April 25 and 26. State and district officers will be present. events include auditions, talks on agriculture, social events, and exhibits. The Power scholarship fund aims to send a student to Intertown National Week, with $254 raised to date. The program features speeches by Mrs Sears R. Lean, Mrs Leni weld I. Nor es, and others, plus musical numbers and social gatherings at the Curry Hotel and St Ambrose church luncheon.

Township Teachers Get Pay Increase
Township school board voted a salary increase of 15 percent for teachers. The school year will extend from nine months to eleven months. All present teachers, except some, have been rehired for next year.

Peter Burla, 45, longtime Anvil-Palms resident, died Saturday night after years of illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St Sebastian Church. interment in Hillcrest Cemetery. Aged Ironton Resident Frank Dufrane Dies at 93
Frank Dufrane, aged resident of Ironton, died Friday afternoon at his son Louis’s home after a lingering illness. Born March 7, 1851 in Cyterville, Minn, he came to Ironton from Bayfield seven years ago to live with his son. He leaves another son Earl of Vermont and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Sebastian Church with Rev. C. J Swoboda officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers were Oscar Gustafson, Peter Westin, Robert Anders, Frank Hoffmer, Louis Menghini and Steve Vizanko.

Aldrick Mikkola, a pioneer dairy man from Bessemer township, died last Friday at his home south of the Davis location after a year of ill health. He was 62, born in Finland January 28, 1872, and operated a dairy farm for 43 years. Survived by his widow and four children. Funeral was held Wednesday at St. Paul’s Finnish church with Rev. Herman Matero officiating. Burial followed at Riverside cemetery in Ironwood.
