Pittsfield third baseman George Scott won the Eastern League MVP after 10 of 18 writers voted him top in a season that featured a triple crown with leading batting average home runs RBIs hits total bases and doubles. Manager Eddie Popowski was voted manager of the year with 13 votes.

Fencers Set Classes Wednesdays at Pittsfield YMCA

The Pittsfield Fencing Club will sponsor Wednesday evening classes for men and women 18 and older at the Pittsfield YMCA from 8 to 10 starting next week. Joseph Banzanini will coach with assistants Gene Pisano Bernard Desautels Wayne Kirklin Phil Farnham and Carl Yackel. Initial instruction covers foil. Equipment is furnished except shoes. The club aims to grow membership and form a team for intercity meets. Active fencers spectators and novices invited.

Local 57 Dominates New England Championship Semifinals

Local 57 defeated Union Federal of Pittsfield 5-0 in the New England championship tournament semifinals over Labor Day weekend. In the finals Local 57 swept two games from the Raybestos Cardinals of Stratford Conn. Union Federal also lost to the Cardinals 6-0 and finished third in the tournament.

Pownal Vermont Brierama won the featured eighth race at Green Mountain Park yesterday covering seven furlongs in 1 27.6. Brierama paid 7 3.40 and 2.80 with Countess Sis and Sagatwist sharing the first two race payouts for a daily double of 6.40. Riskier Sil s Orphan Hard Ice and Brierama combined for a twin double return of 4 573 80. Sil s Orphan was the best single bet paying 23.60 7 and 3 40 on a 2 ticket.

Ray Kushi Wins Tourney At Hills Club

Ray Kushi known as El Cobra won the Berkshire Hills Country Club field day tournament of the Business men's Golf League with a score of 78 13 65. Atty John Shea finished second with 78 and an 11 handicap. Shaun Meehan took third with 86 17 69. Mike Quigley led guests division with 81 1269. John Phelan was elected league president for 1966. Francis Nichols vice president. Anthony Lynch secretary treasurer. New directors are Jerry Nawrocki Jack Lindsay and Gene Case.

Dan Caritey Sparks Plunkett Win In Touch Football

Dan Caritey starred for Plunkett School’s sixth grade team, scoring on a 25 yard punt return and a two point run while connecting with Ken Wood for a pass in a 14-13 win over Pomeroy. Pomeroy countered with Greg Utzig’s rushing TD and Brian Gordon’s TD from a Howard Briskin pass. Briskin also threw to Jeff Gilford for an extra point.
