Dalton Aid Shift Lowers Regional School Benefit

Dalton School Building Planning Committee hears Thomas White report on aid changes. Regional schools receive 43 percent state help, locals 40 percent, dropping regionalization advantage from 20 to 3 percent. Legion Women Hear Talk by Miss Franklin

At the Dalton American Legion Auxiliary meeting Miss Jean Franklin, once a Girls State representative, spoke on her experience at the annual gathering. The unit approved a $5 subscription to Auxiliaries magazine and sent $10 to the Boston School for Deaf Children through the Sisters of St. Joseph. New year officers and chairmanships were announced, with members named for programs in Americana, civil defense, child welfare, and other auxiliaries activities.

Federal Agency Approves Pittsfield Sewer Line

Dalton officials report the U S Department of Health Education and Welfare approved the Brattle Brook sewer line in Pittsfield for federal participation. Dalton commits $30 000 toward construction, extending the system to Dalton Division Road and enabling a sewer system at Greenridge Park now served by septic tanks. Adult Classes Edmond Shea Start Oct 4 To Resign As Assessor

Edmond Shea announces resignation as assessor ending nearly ten three year terms. He will leave to devote full time to Shea the Florist business. Selectmen will decide on filling the vacancy with the town meeting approaching.

Cummington Triumphs in Muster Championship

Cummington fire department muster team won the New England Muster Association championship with 30 points. First place earned three points, second place two. Bernard Forgen led the team as competitors from Hinsdale Worthington Goshen Orange Erving Shately Hatfield Williamsburg and Gill also took part.

Church Use Granted at Community House Dalton

The Church of the Nazarene has permission to hold Sunday services at the Community House for one year, decision by CRA trustees led by Benjamin J. Sullivan with terms set by agreement with CRA director William Braman. Pastor Rev. Ernest Smith to lead services and a use fee will be agreed. The TV Eye Committee says no inspections of complaintant sets have occurred. Names of complainants will be sent to the FCC for investigation.
