Girl Scouts Seek 500 Dollar Drive in New Lebanon Area

New Lebanon and Stephentown divisions of the Girl Scout Neighborhood Council aim to raise 500 for ongoing work. Columbia County seeks a 3090 goal across 53 troops. Led by Mrs. Stephen H. Stouter and Mrs. John L. Condron Jr., the council includes 137 girls in eight troops with 15 adult leaders. Scouts affiliated with Fort Orange Council in Albany. Camp ShaTeMac near Chatham hosted 225 girls this summer.

Dr Kenyon Resigns Health Post Albany official

Dr G Paul Kenyon of Claverack resigns as Columbia County health commissioner effective Oct 14 and will join the state Health Department office of epidemiology starting Oct 15. He has held the $14 000 a year post since July 1963 succeeding Dr Theodore Drachman of Philmont.

Democrats Elect Novak To Third Term

Hudson New York Columbia County Democratic Committee unanimously reelects Lawrence Novak of Valatie as chairman for a third term at Kozels Restaurant West Ghent. New Lebanon New York town clerk Herbert W Lin aholm Sr reports a limited number of party permit applications for a party of four hunters to take an additional deer during the big game season. County Legion Sets 1 459 Goal For Membership

The Columbia County American Legion group met at Floyd Carlton post rooms and set a county membership target of 1 459 with post quotas. Vincent Holsapple announced the local post must recruit 8 members, as Cmdr. Robert Wolfe chaired the session. George Casazza spoke on Boys State attendance at Colgate University. The county Legion dinner is planned for Oct. 20 at Minkler Seery post rooms in Philmont with state Cmdr. William Egan Jr. as guest of honor.

Rod and Gun Club To Resume Meetings In Lebanon Valley

The Rod and Gun Club will hold its next meeting Tuesday at the Town Hall with Lawrence Wick leading. A 20-minute film Grouse Hunting With Ted Williams will follow the business session. Chittenden Wins Exposition Prize for Aged Cows

EBANON VALLEY New York Paul Chittenden of Fair Weather Farm won first prize in the Jersey aged cows division at the Eastern States Exposition Monday. He also captured best dam and daughter at the West Springfield fair. He was the sole local winner.

Incumbent Sylvester Walker was renominated for supervisor at the Republican town primary in Canaan New York. Carolyn V Brady seeks town clerk on the GOP slate against Democrat Kathryn Crosby. Richmond Minister to Lead Final Service at Congregational Church

The Rev. Philip H. Southwick will conduct his final service as pastor of the Richmond Congregational Church this Sunday at 11 a.m. The service includes communion, mirroring his first six years ago. He will start a new pastorate in Georgetown next week. A community reception for Mr and Mrs Southwick is set for Sunday from 2:30 to 4 at the church.

Town Meeting Plan For Fund Transfer In Richmond

A special town meeting is set for Oct 4 at 8 pm in Town Hall where Selectmen seek an $8,000 transfer from the road machinery fund to buy a four wheel drive dump truck for the Highway Department to replace the 1959 model and request permission to trade in or sell it. Also on the agenda is a $730 transfer from the public welfare account to disability assistance. Adams Selectmen Eye Guidelines On Handling Liquor Cases

Insurance firm denies second delay on town rate hike

Lenox selectsmen faced Hartford Life Insurance Co remarks rejecting a further postponement of a 35 percent premium increase for the town employees group medical policy. Board To Seek $5,000 To Fix Town Hall

Adams Selectmen vote to request 5000 for Town Hall repairs at the annual town meeting. They previously approved 3000 for stopgap painting and brick work after an inadequate bid process. An overlooked second bid advertisement caused delays in securing a bidder, leading to a renewed effort.

Adams officials vow tramway despite extremist efforts

Adams selectmen chair Ewart D. Callahan declared the town will get the tramway project on Mt Greylock despite extremist opposition. He defended the $5.5 million ski development as a residents’ benefit and noted private promoters have previously developed public lands. The Mt Greylock Protective Association has blocked the project in the legislature and has an appeal pending in the Supreme Judicial Court to halt the tramway.

Work on Alger Street to Start Monday

Ewart D. Callahan announced that Chapter 90 reconstruction on Alger Street will start Monday and finish by November 1. Conway Construction Co. of Pittsfield, the low bidder at 66099.75 dollars, was awarded the contract. The street will be widened and improved toward the Cheshire line.
