Mitchell Warns Steel To End Strike
San Francisco secretary of labor James P. Mitchell warned the steel industry may face distasteful legislation if the 66 day walkout drags on. He suggested an 80 day Taft-Hartley injunction and said a political Congress after January could act. Mitchell spoke at AFL-CIO and urged unity ahead of a union relief drive. He also said Hoffa must report within 10 days on removing Teamster officials with criminal records.

The New York market slid Friday with heavy selling and rising US bonds. Volume climbed to 2.53 million shares as late trading tugged prices lower then firmed. Dow fell 3.22 to 6258.75 while AP average dropped to 217.40. new lows outpaced highs.

McCormack Appeals Blue Law Ruling
Boston attorney general Edward J. McCormack filed a notice of appeal in federal court challenging a July ruling that the Sunday Blue Law allows Crown Kosher Market in Springfield to stay open on Sundays for kosher sales. The three judge panel majority included Magruder and Woodbury with McCarthy dissenting. The appeal goes directly to the Supreme Court.
