Statehouse tax plans diverge on city relief and budget needs

The House will consider a Democratic tax plan that raises 106 million dollars to balance the state budget and aid cities only 30 million, with no ongoing relief or redistribution for poorer communities. It contrasts Gov Volpe’s 202 million package, while delays plague the governor’s program and a hearing examined various tax measures. County budgets stall as the House rejects a revised county budget bill, threatening a year-end rewrite. The Senate killed a proposal allowing a Havana educated physician a preparatory exam, and a Worcester representative’s Christmas tree suggestion drew scorn as session length strains into December. The Senate adopted a wetlands protection bill with easier appeal routes, and Neill W. Schoonmaker was confirmed for Ware District Court.

Gemini 7 Flight Delayed to December 8 at Cape Kennedy

Space agency officials moved to keep Gemini 7 on its original timetable by switching back to the Titan 2 booster after deciding not to use the Gemini 6 booster for the launch. The delay follows the postponement of Gemini 6 due to Agena target rocket failure.
