Viet Reds Lose Heavily In Attack Near Saigon
Near Saigon, 101 Viet Cong were killed in a dawn assault on the Duc Lap ranger camp as U.S. forces pressed mop up around Plei Me. Government troops and advisers suffered light to moderate casualties and returned to duty. U.S. air and ground fire repulsed the assault, while airborne American cavalry swept the area. The fighting followed prior Viet Cong attempts at Duc Lao and near Plei Me.

36 Die in BEA Jet Crash at London Airport
The BEA Vanguard airliner from Scotland crashed on a fog shrouded London runway during a third landing attempt. All 36 passengers and crew were killed. Pilot Captain Norman Shackell, 43, had circled for nearly an hour as fog reduced visibility to about 400 yards. The accident was the first fatal London Airport crash in five years and the fourth worst in British history. No Americans were aboard.
