Berkshire Community College will receive 32712 in federal funds under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 for a college work study program. Dean Kendell Way, registrar and dean of men, says 9007 will fund summer work, 10198 for first semester, and 13507 set aside for the second term pending Congress 1966 appropriations. The college will extend placements to YMCA, Girls Club, hospitals, and social agencies throughout Berkshire County with a 90 percent student salary contribution from the college and 10 percent from the organization, paying students 1.25 per hour.
Boston officials praise Ohrenberger for braver recognition of racial imbalance in public schools while the Ad Hoc Committee warns the issue harms education. Kiernan backs the finding that imbalance exists. the panel calls Ohrenberger’s proposed remedies a first step. A march is planned to press action and a $129 million crash construction bill is cited as needed.

A 1000-pound experimental payload rose 400 miles high at Cape Kennedy and used a telescope eye to lock onto the North Star for guidance. The Air Force reported a successful test of a star tracking guidance system that could direct future missiles or spacecraft. The payload then burned up in the atmosphere 225 miles southeast of Cape Kennedy. The device carried a compact inertial guidance system that steered itself by celestial reference.
Viet Cong bombs exploded at Saigon's international airport wounding 34 U.S. servicemen and 10 others as a rescue helicopter mission followed. A Viet Cong ambush 50 miles southwest of Saigon reportedly kidnapped a U.S. military adviser while U.S. planes conducted 73 sorties against North Vietnam.

In Santo Domingo a daylong battle between rebels and U S troops left 21 Dominicans dead and 24 American paratroopers wounded. Mortar fire followed a cease-fire as fighting continued near the power plant and Capello building. The OAS blamed the rebels for starting the shootout and said U S troops fired after 25 minutes.
