Dormitory sprinkler flood damages Berkshire School building

Considerable water damage followed the sprinkler release in the attic of Berkshire School’s new Sheffield dormitory Thursday night just before 10 30. Masters Mr L Stewart and Mr W Leeds Jr occupied the building with Mrs Leeds while a wedding plans event loomed for Miss Emily Andrews of Great Barrington. No fire occurred and the cause remains unclear as maintenance notified the fire department. A Christmas party for children is planned Sunday at 2 p m at Our Lady of the Valley parish hall with puppet show and Santa Claus.

Egremont Churches Schedule Christmas Services

North Egremont Baptist Church and First Congregational Church in South Egremont announce a sequence of Christmas services. The Baptist Sunday school program led by Roland Wheeler includes dedicatory services and a Bach postlude. The Congregational service features Rev James S Chase with a sermon on His Law and His Gospel and carol performances by the junior choir. A candlelight event at South Egremont, with Lorraine Glanville as soloist, includes traditional carols and festive preludes. A North Egremont candlelight service and Youth Choir carols close out the schedule with readings and Noels.

Ninth weekly jazz concert in South Egremont

The South Berkshire Jazz Appreciation Society sponsors the ninth weekly concert at the Egremont Club tomorrow afternoon. The seven piece band, mainly Williams College students, features a guest artist each week. The society plans a New Year Eve Dixieland show at the club and resumes weekly concerts January 8 for the rest of the season.

The Housatonic Methodist Church Sunday school hosts its annual Christmas party tonight at 7 in the church social rooms with a Christmas program and Santa Claus. Due to a joint service at the Congregational Church, Sunday school will meet at 9 30 am this Sunday only.
