Advent Service at First Congregational Dalton

The fourth Sunday of Advent will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with carols by the senior choir under Miss Margaret Reade Areata Ne. The program includes "As Lately We Watched" and "What Child Is This" as well as "To Shepherds Fast Asleep." Dr. Charles G. Christianson will present "Be It Anva or Demon: the Familiar?" An annual primary department party is today 2 to 4 in the parish house.

Camp Fire Girls Light Yule Tree Ceremony

Camp Fire Girls and Bluebirds lit the Community House tree to open the holiday season with carols and a puppet show. Children donated gifts for overseas shoebox projects as groups sang, traveled to visit shut-ins, and returned for refreshments at the parish house. John G. Anderson announced he will not seek re election in February town meeting after nine years on the Finance Committee. Four other members’ terms also expire.

Methodist Church Christmas Plans and Youth Activities

Dalton notes list the Methodist Church Christmas preparations with Mrs. Everett Calkins in charge of young adults and the upcoming Christmas party at the Walton home. Other events include a 9:45 am church school program, 10:45 am nativity baptism service, a 6 pm family party with Santa Claus, and youth caroling for shut-ins, followed by refreshments.

Whitey Persson Resigns From Jr. Football Program

Dalton news reports Whitey Persson resigns from active participation in the Dalton Junior Football program where he served as head coach last season. The group began with Persson and Edward Culverwell to address lack of pre high school training. The organization once played Thanksgiving games at Wakoonah Park and expanded to peewee football. new officers include Buel Adams president, Craig Halvorson vice president, William Sumner secretary, and Robert Smith treasurer.

Civic Association Discusses Abatements in Dalton

Dalton Civic Association members weighed abatements processed by assessors including cases where abatements were granted without applications. Edmond F. Shea, assessor chairman, said such adjustments are routine. A separate discussion touched on possible 4 percent interest on abatements for the town. Patterson Transfers Airman William L. Patterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Patterson, completed his initial Air Force basic training at Lackland and will attend motorized equipment maintenance training at Chanute.

Charity League Meeting and Gift Grab Bag Event

The Holy Family League of Charity will hold its monthly meeting Monday at 8 p.m. at the home of Miss Betty Shields. A Christas party will follow and attendees are asked to bring a 50 cent gift for the grab bag. In other local items, Solomon Smitherman was fined for driving with a suspended license and speeding. His wife Dora Smitherman pleaded innocent to allowing an improper person to operate her car. A separate court action fined Arthur C. Nagai and Charles W. Tyler for traffic violations. The George D. Van Zandt Sheet Metal Co. held its Christmas party. Fire calls were reported in Lee. Selectmen will meet Monday at 8 p.m. at the town office. Local students and residents are mentioned in holiday homecomings.

Williamstown Recreation Commission will stage its annual public Christmas event for local children next Friday at 6 30 in the school. No skating on December 29 as the Williams College rink session is canceled due to a Faculty Club party.

Swann Wins Rotary Foundation Fellowship for Study Abroad

Williamstown student Jerre B. Swann, a Williams College senior, earns a Rotary Foundation Fellowship for the 1961 62 academic year to study English history and literature abroad. Swann, Phi Delta Theta president, plans five universities in England and Germany with Oxford as first choice and aims for a legal career. He is a Gadsden Alabama native, Christ School graduate, and sits on multiple Williams committees while earning merit honors.

St George Church Children Service Tomorrow at 3 P M

Lee Lenox and Pittsfield Kiwani Annes invite nearby clubs to a Christmas meeting at East Lee Inn at 6 45 pm Monday. The prize is a handmade shaggy dog donated by Mrs Margaret Bassidy.
