Congressman Welter Rejects Fund Raising Magazine
Democratic Congressman Charles D. Welter, D Ga, becomes the first to reject a controversial fund raising publication issued by the Democratic National Committee. The 176 page magazine contains 66 full page ads from major corporations, including several with defense contracts. Welter objects to selling the revue as a money raiser for him and a voter education tool, saying it is not appropriate to bill it as both. The DNC and RNC defend such publications as voter education, not restricted by federal campaign finance law. Public funding disclosures depend on whether groups operate at state or national levels.
