Tanglewood Weekend Concerts Showcases Browning and Leinsdorf

Yesterday at Tanglewood the Berkshire Festival drew 7 338 to hear the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Erich Leinsdorf perform Prokofieff and Schubert with a new Barber piano concerto featuring John Browning. Barber joined Browning for applause as the pianist impressed with fleet technique amid rich orchestral support. Leinsdorf led a witty Classical Symphony and a brisk Schubert C Major with precise tempo guidance. Saturday’s crowd of 8 182 witnessed Ormandy conduct Beethoven and Prokofieff, Brahms Variations, and a forceful Prokofieff Fifth, praised for its massive orchestration and urgent presentation. The Tanglewood audience, large and responsive, celebrated both guest maestros and the festival’s enduring appeal.
