Vermont House grants final approval to a bill abolishing capital punishment in most cases and sending it to Governor Hoff for signing. The measure ends execution by electric chair, with two exceptions for second murders not related and killings involving on duty police or prison guards.
Boston AP report describes a theft of furs worth 50 000 to 75 000 dollars from Huerth and Huerth Inc in Back Bay. Two men posing as customers bound the owner Carl Huerth and three employees with ropes while their getaway included a green Cadillac convertible. A bystander saw two men flee and a yellow parking ticket on the windshield tied to a wiper and a patrol car tag linked the suspects to the crime.
Senator Ribicoff urged the ICC to require continued full commuter service on the bankrupt New Haven Railroad while federal and state funds are sought. He called for a full cost study, state cooperation, and for Pennsylvania and New York Central to assume passenger service as a merger condition. The plan aims to protect some 25,000 New York City commuters from Westchester and Connecticut, amid a pending merger and looming Aug. 1 cut.

Concord Massachusetts will host a two day Thoreau Walk from Walden Pond to the Internal Revenue Service offices in Boston to protest U S involvement in South Viet Nam and the use of tax money for military activity. The New England Committee for Nonviolent Action sponsors the event. Thursday is the tax return deadline. Henry David Thoreau, famed writer and philosopher, was jailed in Concord for tax resistance to the Mexican War.
President Johnson assigns Henry Cabot Lodge to a six nation Far East swing as personal representative to consult friendly governments on the Vietnamese situation. Lodge, former Viet Nam and U.N. ambassador, will visit Australia New Zealand the Philippines Formosa Japan and Korea to share American views and hear theirs.

Hazel F Hensey organized 15 colleagues. others joined, raising 203 dollars for personalized clothing. Each child’s sizes guided a shopping list and items bought by the donors.
