The operation used F4C jets alongside F105s, while Marines landed at Da Nang bringing total forces to eight thousand. Burglars Take $100000 in Jewelry at Worcester Store

Police report an early morning break in at Diamond Jewelers Co. Inc. on Main Street Worcester. Burglars entered via a fire escape, cut through a wire barrier to access a storeroom, cracked a safe, and stole 33600 in cash along with unset diamonds and other jewelry. Watches and display pieces were taken from cases. Manager Harold Sachs estimated the loss from an earlier inventory.

Man Steals 1809 Lincoln Penny Worth 200 Dollars

Police hunt a well dressed young man who walked into Spruceland Stamp and Coin Co. on Tuesday and examined an 1809 Lincoln penny with a San Francisco mint mark and the engraver's initials for 15 minutes before grabbing it worth 200 dollars. The coin had been stopped from minting after the engraver's initials were found on the die.

City Population Falls 1,851 in Year

Pittsfield shows 56,511 residents as current city census counts, down from 58,362 last year and 57,879 in 1960 federal tally. Florence W. Mullaney notes the figures serve as official state census data, with 1955 state total at 55,294, 1,217 lower than 1965.

Steel union talks offer two compromise plans

Pittsburgh AP reports union sources say the steel industry proposed two compromise plans to end the contract stalemate. One plan would extend the current contract to August 1 in exchange for guaranteed contract improvements.
