Fall roundup proceeds with cattle in good condition despite drought as stockers may be moved to other ranges.

Catholic Dance Raises Funds for Local Church

A large crowd attended a Catholic Church fundraiser dance at Rink Hall on Wednesday night. About 150 to 200 people enjoyed music from the Benson Orchestra, Spanish luncheon, and drinks, aiding repairs for the church. The event coincided with Mexico Independence Day celebrations. Proceeds neared $100. Also noted were observations about Soudan grass on Pete Jensen’s farm and irrigation, plus a note on Pathe service reels replacing current film offerings and a Panama-Pacific Exposition feature at San Diego shown recently.

Half of taxes due November and March under new law

Taxpayers must pay one half of taxes by the first Monday in November at 5 p.m. with 4 percent annual interest if late. The remaining half is due the first Monday in March next year and delinquent the first Monday in May with the same penalty. The old rule before December is replaced by earlier November payment and later May delinquency.

Benson Schools Open With Growing Enrollment

Benson Union High School opened with 37 students while Benson Grammar School welcomed 120 on the first day. Despite smaller first day counts, families from nearby towns are moving to Benson for better schooling and an anticipated rise in average attendance. W. E. Barnes Explores Arizona History for Tudor Citizen
