Red Cross Members Urged to Help and Attend Meetings

The Benson Red Cross chapter urges members to attend the last meeting, sew at home, and donate time for Bandages and hospital supplies. Benson's unit totals 82 members with 58 women and 24 men, and a new shipment of hospital supplies is planned as more members participate.

Copper Chief Mining Co to Start Large Scale Operations

The Copper Chief Mining Co of Johnson plans to begin large scale work on November 1 with J. T. Tong as superintendent. The mine, closed since January, has shipped about two cars daily and now adds a steam driven air compressor and steam hoist to boost production. Cobriza struggles for shipping cars while Dragoon Copper Lease sinks its shaft awaiting a water level to reach sulphide ore.

High School Notes On Liberty Bond Preparations

High School pupils were given a vacation to help decorate the school and auditorium for Liberty Bond Day. Boys were dismissed early to build the Liberty Bond fire, led by Mr. W B Kleinz. A Liberty Band meeting drew a large crowd with speakers from Benson Pomerene Miramonte and St David and noted figures Judge Ross Ex Governor Cruse and Chaplain Scott. The Miramonte farmers showcase at the State Fair benefits Pima County and Cochise area.

Liberty Bonds Quota Subscribers Named

Benson Pomerene and St. David have each subscribed their full quota of Liberty Bonds, signaling strong local backing for the project.

Pleasant Housewarming in St. David for Mattesons

A reception and house warming was held last Thursday from 4 to 6 pm at the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Matteson in St. David. Mrs. Matteson hosted as a large group of women friends attended. The decor featured flowers and refreshments were served. Visitor Mrs. Rhoda Eldredge, a lifelong friend, recalled Mrs. Matteson’s first birthday and gave a nostalgic talk to the attendees.

Pastor Roberts and family move to Trask house

Rev. David Roberts new Methodist Church pastor arrived Thursday with Mrs. Roberts and daughter Miss Veda from Glendale by auto. He notes Mr. and Mrs. Ferris reached Glendale earlier and Ferris preached there Sunday night. The Roberts have taken the Trask house and will lead services tomorrow evening.

Ben son road bond rush needed now for river trade

Liberty Day Talk and Dance by Fort Huachuca Troops

The afternoon included a Liberty Day program on school grounds with an American flag display. The Tenth Cavalry Band from Fort Huachuca performed gratis while speakers urged support for government bonds and preparedness. Captain Howe announced over $200,000 in bonds subscribed. A dance in the Auditorium raised funds for the Red Cross.

St David News Highlights Local Visits and Scores

Mr and Mrs Johnson returned from Bisbee after a visit. St David defeated Pomerone and St David boys 22 to 5. Principal Duches traveled to Bisbee and back. Liberty Bond meeting held with speakers Robertson and Cosby of Benson. Mrs Bertha Harris and family from Bisbee visiting. Miss Minnie Clifford went to Tucson Saturday.

Party to the Stronghold Enjoys Cochise Outing

They started early spent midday in cool air and mountain water then had a shaded lunch before returning in the evening after a day of real enjoyment.
